Houses of Fiction book

Phyllis Richardson, author of House of Fiction: From Pemberley to Brideshead, Great British Houses in Literature and Life has joined other leading writers in supporting our campaign to reimagine Jane Austen’s ‘Great House.’ She says:

‘I’m supporting the Great House campaign because without Chawton we might never have had Jane Austen’s writing; those novels that are like windows quietly opened onto 18th-century society, which we are still peering through, with a mixture of fascination and familiarity, two centuries on.’

Phyllis Richardson is the author of several books on contemporary architecture. Her most recent book explores literary houses, both real and imagined, including Jane Austen’s ‘Great House’.
